The Space That Holds the In-Between

The Space That Holds the In-Between was written during a fragile moment in life — the quiet space between still being here and slowly saying goodbye.

I composed this piece for my beloved cat Merlijn, who is reaching the final chapter of his life.

It is music for moments when words are no longer enough — for sitting quietly beside someone you love, human or animal.

A place where time softens and only presence remains.

for the man who has stood beside me
between sky and earth
for many years.

It is about chaos and light.
About staying open when it would be easier to close.
About love — not as an idea,
but as a living presence.

I wrote this for someone I love.

He knows.

The rest of the world may simply hear music.
But beneath it lives a prayer —
for strength,
for trust,
for the quiet certainty
that love still exists.
